Questions and answers

What parents ask us, with plain answers

If yours isn’t here, write to us. Questions are how this page grows.

Is the clinic really free?

For families who qualify, yes. There is no fee for the clinic’s time. If an outside cost could come up, such as a private evaluation, we tell you in writing before you agree to it.

What does “qualify” mean?

Your household income is under a yearly guideline, and your problem is about evaluations, IEPs, 504 plans or school discipline. A short call settles both.

Do you take every case?

No. We take the ones where a lawyer’s time changes what happens next, and we say clearly when a matter is outside what we do.

What should I send first?

The notice, the latest plan or report, and the date on any letter. A phone photo is fine.

Will you come to the school meeting?

Sometimes. Often we prepare you before and read the draft afterward. When a meeting looks likely to go badly, a lawyer attends with you.

How long does a case take?

It depends on the school and the problem. A letter can settle some matters in weeks. A formal complaint can take months. We give you our best estimate at each step.

Can you promise a result?

No lawyer honestly can. We promise to read everything, tell you what we see, and act only with your say.

My child has no diagnosis. Can you still help?

Yes. Many families start before there is a label. An evaluation request is often the first step.

Is my information private?

What you send is read by clinic staff. Once the clinic agrees to represent you, it is confidential. Please don’t send confidential details through the website form.

Do you speak with the school for me?

If you want us to, and once you’ve agreed in writing that we represent you. Until then we advise you and you speak for your child.

Something we didn’t answer?

Write two lines, or call. We’ll answer in plain words.
